Try to handle your coins as little as possible. Dust, scratches, fingerprints and moisture will affect the quality of your coins and depreciate their value. When it's absolutely necessary you should hold them on the edges.

Cleaning coins is not a good idea, so if it has to be done, the process should be entrusted to an expert. Removing a coin's slowly developed patina might make it less tempting to collectors and possibly less valuable.

Collections will most likely be fine under the safety of a store-bought holder; just make sure that it will keep your most valuable liberty nickels out of harm's way by locking out moisture as well as fingerprints and dust. Stapled or taped packets don’t give maximum protection, but there are other protectors in the market that can also guard effectively against moisture. Avoid any storage space that is damp and cool when selecting a storage area for your collectible coins.
