Avoid touching your coins as much as possible. Your coins' value is judged by quality: dust, smudges and nicks from handling will lessen their appraised value. If you must handle your collectable coins you should try to hold them only on the edges, especially with mint condition coins.

Coin cleaning, which is not recommended, should be done only by an expert, and only when absolutely necessary. The patina on an old coin might best be left undisturbed, since removing it could decrease the coin's value as a collectible.

Moisture can cause problems just like fingerprints and dust can, so even though most holders are sufficient to protect your seated liberty dollars make sure your most valuable pieces are really protected. Typical stapled or taped packets do not provide the optimum amount of protection, however there are other protectors available that can also protect against moisture. If you are storing your collectible coins, select a space that is dry over any prone to dampness or humidity.
