The less you handle your coins the better. Scratched, dirty, or coins marred from handling have less value than those in mint condition. If you must handle your collectable coins you should try to hold them only on the edges, especially with mint condition coins.

It is usually not a good idea to clean coins, so if it has to be done, the process should be entrusted to an expert. Collectors might actually value the patina a coin has gradually developed, and consider a cleaned coin less desirable.

The most prized standing liberty quarters in your collection should be stored in an excellent holder that safeguards against fingerprints, dust, and even moisture. While packets that are held by staples or tape don’t give the greatest protection, there are alternative bags available that can block moisture as well. In any case, it is best to store collectible coins in a dry place; never store them in a basement or other cool, damp area.
