It’s best to handle your collectible coins as little as possible. Your coins' value is judged by quality: dust, smudges and nicks from handling will lessen their appraised value. If you must handle your collectable coins you should try to hold them only on the edges, especially with mint condition coins.

Cleaning coins is not recommended and if necessary should be left to an expert. A coin's patina, gradually developed over a period of time, might increase the coin's desirability, whereas cleaning the coin could make it less valuable.

Although the majority of coin collection holders will store your state quarters safely, be sure that the really valuable items in your collection are safe from moisture as well as just fingerprints and dust. Aside from the typical stapled or taped packets that provide average protection, there are other protectors out there that can do a better job and guard against moisture as well. Protecting your collectible coins from water damage is paramount; choose a dry, controlled-temperature space, never a damp basement or cellar.
